In general, Archives consists of records that have been selected for permanent or long term preservation on grounds of their enduring cultural, historical, or evidentiary value. This means that archives are quite distinct from libraries with regard to their functions and organization. They have been metaphorically defined as the secretion of an organism and are distinguished from documents that have been consciously written or created to communicate a particular message to posterity. This records are unique and rare to find due to the content they contain.
Why am may saying this? In the year 1918 there was an outbreak called Spanish influenza which spread all over the world just as the Corona Virus. During that time people were advised to wear masks, social distance in public places, churches, schools and all social places were closed. This influenza lasted for three good years. People were frustrated just the way we are now.
We are not certain when the corona will come to an end but we are hopeful that since the spanish influenza came and ended this will also end. The photography here attached was taken in 1918 and 102 years later am able to access the archives and share with you colleagues. Most of us were not there during that time of Spanish influenza but thanks be to God that archives were kept for us to read and not panic. We are now creating a lot of records which will be preserved for the future generation to read on Covid 19 pandemic. Stay safe and maintain social distance and God bless you all.
