RECORDS MANAGEMENT DURING THE COVID 19 PANDEMIC

Records management refers to a set of activities required for systematically controlling the creation , distribution, use, maintenance and disposition of recorded information maintained as evidence of business activities and transaction.  During this time of Covid-19, a lot of records are being created. Since it was first reported in China in December 2019.  This virus has now spread all over the world and on each continent, with every country having a record from when it was first case was reported. There is a record of those that were quarantined, a record on those who got healed and one of those who succumbed to death from the virus.  There are also records on how to keep safe during this pandemic and how it has affected the economy aster most businesses  were put on hold so as to weigh the situation. but it seems we are not yet off the hook for it is not yet predictable when this pandemic will end.

Records have been created on how the pandemic has affected the people socially, where many are now required to adhere to the social distancing rules including places of worship like churches and mosques which still remain closed up to now. The records are being created by countless researchers trying to find out how this virus has made all humanity equal by not discriminating on who to infect and who to leave out, with questions rising during the early stages being why Africans seemed to have been spared from the tragedy before it later hit the continent.

Records are being generated on how it started from the most powerful continents in the world, and it is not over yet for we are still expecting more records to be created as we hope for an antidote to be found as many researchers and scientists also spend days and nights in their labs trying to save us from the misery taking one after the other.

All these information is vital, and there is need for it to be well maintained especially for the generations to come so that it can be used as evidence and for memory about the time humanity almost came to an end from a disease that none knew would hit as hard as it has. A disease that erupted from China and spread all over the world. In  future, researchers, journalists, information seekers and scholars will be able to cite it if its to recur and save their generation too using records created during our time.

Information is power, and there is need to keep our recorded information well for future reference and use.  We have all learned a lesson from this and my hope is that we will continue keeping safe by social distancing, washing our hand regularly, wearing the mask in public places, not touching our faces, and remaining hopeful when faced by difficulties.  Our records will speak for us in future.
