The UoN on 26th March 2024 launched new ICT sytems. The event was graced by CS for ICT Mr.Eliud Owallo. In his welcoming remarks the Corporate Affairs Director Mr. Orindi stated that the UoN was going towards the right direction as far as digitization is concerned and is in tandem with the goverment's agenda on digitization.
The Director ICT Mr. Kariuki on his part acknowledged support from the digitization committee chaired by VC Prof Kiama and Prof Mande. He acknowledged the resilient infrastructure that university has and that university had over 180 websites.Some of the areas the UoN has digitised include,HR,Security,records,finance.
The University of Nairobi (UON) unveiled 150 Wi-Fi hotspots strategically spread across student hostels. This deployment of Wi-Fi infrastructure reflects the university's commitment to enhancing connectivity and ensuring seamless access to online resources for its student body.
On his part the VC Prof Kiama appreciated CS Eliud Owallo,the senate,the UEB,staff and students for honoring the event.He urged the need to accelerate through innovation and the need to train people to change as this will enhance efficiency and effectiveness in operations.
CS was amazed by the University and acknowleged that whatever the University was undertaking is similar to what the Kenyan government is doing.He talked of the joblessness especially among the youth and appealed to the VC to help create jobs for the students on its digital platforms.
He too emphasized on the need for data protection even as the University goes digital.
