REOPENING OF SCHOOLS

The Covid 19 task force response committee reported that it had received 3,000 individual and institutional submissions on reopening of schools.  This coming when there is already a division among the education stakeholders on whether or not the schools should be opened for the second term.  Kenyans are eagerly waiting for the schools to reopen with concern for the form four and standard eight candidates.  The president in his public address to Kenyans on Saturday June 6th hinted that the earliest the schools can  be reopened is September 1st 2020.  He emphasised that this will only take place when the experts confirm to him if the virus has been contained and assure that it is  safe for the schools to reopen.

In France, schools reopened after the lock down and in barely a week, seventy students had contracted the virus.  It is important for the  schools to remain closed until the situation improves. The president also added that the reopening of schools shall be done on gradual basis as we monitor the progress for it is better to wait and be safe at home than to reopen and regret later.
