UoN and Partners plant 11,000 Trees

 

 

The University fraternity and its partners gathered and planted 11,000 tree seedlings on Wednesday, November 16, 2022. This is in line with the president’s directive for all citizens and organizations to help the government achieve its aim of planting 5 billion trees as part of its climate mitigation agenda.

Among the partners that were donated the seedlings included Qwetu student residences, Platinum Credit Limited, Heard of Green, Kenya Forest Service (KFS), Kenya forest research institute(KEFRI) and the National Environmental Management Authority of Kenya (NEMA).

Prof Moses Nyangito, The Dean Faculty of Agriculture in his opening remarks was delighted to welcome the guests at the Faculty  and noted that the university was determined to make our country greener, stating that in the university’s agenda planting trees also in the communities neighboring the institution is part of the university’s communal mandate. He thanked all the partners and donors who had donated the trees.

Mr. Johnson Kinyua,the Dean of Students, in his sentiments stated that the contemporary issues of climate change facing planet Earth would be looked at from both a positive and negative side, he further went on to state that the University decided to look into the issue positively by looking into what it would do for the greater good of the environment and save humanity from adverse climate changes

Prof. Kerubo who was the Vice-chancellor’s representative during the activity’s opening ceremony. siad that  “As individuals, we must take care of the environment. As an institution we have taken up the challenge to take care of the environment by partnering with different organizations to plant more trees, “planting trees gives us hope for a better tomorrow.
