Experts debunk stigma around mental health

At the University of Nairobi’s Mental Health Awareness day celebrations held on Wednesday November 3, 2021, pertinent issues on mental health were discussed.

The day was marked in a bid to provide much needed insight given the upsurge in cases of illnesses such as depression, social anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder and schizophrenia. It was important to debunk the stigma surrounding mental health issues in Kenya and provide information that would be integral in identifying early warning signs of mental health.

Global leaders call for fair deal for Africa at COP26

Global leaders have called for a fair deal for Africa at the COP26 conference in Glasgow. This was the clarion call by the leaders, led by President Uhuru Kenyatta, at the launch of the Global Center on Adaptation (GCA) “State and Trends in Adaptation in Africa Report 2021 – How Adaptation Can Make Africa Safer, Greener and More Prosperous in a Warming World” (STA21).

University of Nairobi 2020 Virtual Inter-Denomination Prayer Day Thursday July 23, 2020

The University held the annual virtual prayers today July 23, 2020, at Taifa Hall.  The prayers were officiated by Catholic father Kaigua, Protestant Chaplain, and Muslim Chaplain.  The Vice-Chancellor Prof. Kiama was present and the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academic Affairs.  The annual prayers usually are held at the beginning of the year but due to COVID 19 pandemic, this year's prayers were carried forward to a favourable date which was today July 23, 2020.  

Funds to support Needy Students at the University of Nairobi

The Dean of Students' Office at the University is making an appeal to all well-wishers to support the needy students of the University.   The community will always have those who are able and those who are not.  The needy students need to study just like the other students for them to realize their dreams they need to be supported.  It is always good to share the little that we have with others.  The donations can be in the form of money or other consumables.  

Congratulatory Message to Prof. Albert Mumma on his confirment as a Senior Counsel

The University community is happy to have one of their staff appointed as a senior council by His excellence the president. Professor Mumma, a Ph.D. in Law holder from Cambridge University, Master of Law from Yale University, and Bachelor’s degree in Law from the University of Nairobi was conferred the rank of senior counsel alongside 24 other advocates including former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka. 

University of Nairobi Inter-Denomination Virtual Prayer Day July 23, 2020

The University of Nairobi usually organizes for prayers yearly.  This year's prayer will be held on Thursday, July 23, 2020, from 9.00 am to 10.30.30am.  The prayers will be online and all staff, students, and stakeholders are invited and encouraged to join the congregation by login on the University website as provided.  http://www.uonbi.ac.ke/livestream.  Due to the COVID 19 outbreak, these prayers will be online to be able to maintain social distancing and to prevent the spread of the virus as we were instructed by the ministry of held that there should be no face to face meetings.

Central Units Corruption Prevention Committee

The University of Nairobi constituted several committee to foresee the issues of corruption and report to the EACC.  The Central Units corruption committee comprises of the 22 units of central administration.  This committee is chaired by the University Finance Officer.  They usually hold quarterly meetings to deliberate on issues of corruption in their units and forward a report to university corruption committee which compiles all the reports submitted from colleges and central units then re-submit the same report to EACC.
